Patch: A Double Layer Nursing Design

Combining Iodophor Disinfection and Nursing Hemostasis for Improved Wound Care

In daily life, hemostatic cotton and iodophor are usually necessary for dressing wounds. However, it is easy to neglect to disinfect and clean the wound, leading to inappropriate care during treatment. This is especially true for children who lack experience and nursing knowledge. To address this issue, designer Chunfeng Lin has developed Patch, a unique care product that combines iodophor disinfection and nursing hemostasis, providing better emergency nursing measures.

This project focuses on the healthy treatment of skin and wounds and integrates product and packaging design. Patch stands out by incorporating quirky animated mascots, such as sheep, elephant, panda, crocodile, pig, lion, and cattle, which appeal to children and enhance the affinity of the product and packaging. The design features a double-layer structure, with the first two-layer nursing tape serving as both iodophor disinfection and nursing hemostasis. This integration ensures guided and timely care for children and meets the emergency needs of a wider range of users.

The realization of Patch involves the use of medical breathable tape, organosilicon release film, and composite materials. Through extensive research and testing, the designer has optimized the stripping force and adhesive force of the materials. The medical cotton tablets soaked in iodine and the hemostatic pad are set separately between the release film to form a combined component. The resulting Patch measures 50mm*60mm, providing an effective and convenient solution for wound care.

Operating Patch is simple. Users only need to tear open the composite material of the double-layer care patch and take out the disinfecting cotton pad to disinfect the skin and wounds at an early stage, reducing the risk of infection. Then, they can tear open the organosilicon release film and paste the medical breathable tape on the wound to bandage and stop bleeding, completing the basic treatment. Patch ensures guided and timely care for children, improving the overall nursing experience and meeting the emergency needs of more people.

The development of Patch is the result of extensive research on functional wound care systems. The designer analyzed children's daily nursing methods and needs, conducted material screening, testing, and evaluation, and ultimately created the first two-layer nursing tape with integrated iodophor disinfection and nursing hemostasis. This innovative design offers differentiated competitive advantages compared to traditional Band-Aids, providing better care for children and improving the overall quality of wound treatment.

Recognizing its ingenuity and resourcefulness, Patch was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids, and Children's Products Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place. Patch's unique combination of iodophor disinfection and nursing hemostasis sets it apart as an outstanding solution for wound care.
